PixelGameBase opened in 2016 above a laneway coffee roaster near the Bourke Street Mall. What started as three friends restoring a broken Galaga cabinet has grown into a 40-seat arcade lounge and a working game studio that ships titles for Steam, Switch and mobile.
By day our developers prototype and playtest. By night the lounge fills with regulars chasing high scores on 32 restored cabinets and modern couch-co-op stations. Everyone from first-timers to speedrunners is welcome.

Walk-in arcade access is AUD $18 for a two-hour session with unlimited free-play on every cabinet. A full-day pass is AUD $32, and members of our players club (AUD $25/month) get unlimited entry plus priority tournament seating.
The lounge is open Tuesday to Thursday 12pm–9pm, Friday and Saturday 12pm–late (last entry 11pm), and Sunday 12pm–6pm. We’re closed Mondays for maintenance and studio sprints. Public-holiday hours are posted at the door.
Yes. Our "Make Your First Game" weekend intensive runs monthly for AUD $180 and covers Godot from zero to a playable build. We also host free casual dev meetups every second Wednesday for anyone tinkering with a project.
Absolutely. Private hire of the full lounge starts at AUD $650 for three hours and includes all 32 cabinets, the couch-co-op stations and a dedicated host. Corporate team nights can add catering from our laneway neighbours — just ask.
